Problem: Acer Aspire 1694/1690 laptop died.
Symptoms: Power LED and hard disk LED lights up but screen remainds blank.
Fix: Unseat/remove the built-in wi-fi card from its socket. Turn on the laptop. Turn off laptop. And reseat/reinstall the wi-fi card again.
My Acer Aspire 1694/ 1690 laptop died yesterday. The power LED button lights up, the hard disk drive LED lights up, but the screen just remains blank. At first I thought the BIOS has become corrupted. Found some information online on how to flash my BIOS with a usb flashdrive, but it didn’t seem to work. Tried turning on the laptop with the hard disk and RAM removed, but it didn’t help either.
Brought my laptop to the Acer Service Centre this morning. The tech twiddled with it, tried removing the hard disk and RAM too. Still nothing. He put back the RAM and removed the built-in Intel wi-fi card, powered it up and VOILA! This little phoenix rose from its ashes again. He then turned laptop off, reinstalled the hard disk and the wi-fi card and everything was back to normal. And he didn’t even want to charge me anything. Phew, and I thought this was my chance to go get a new laptop already
And it also thought me a very important lesson, BACK UP REGULARLY!
